O.K., I know we just finished celebrating our fifth birthday for what seemed like a year straight, yet was a lot of fun! Now we’re onto our EGGSTRAVAGANZA event(s). We used to do this for one day as well, but everyone had such a blast with our promos from the birthday celebrations that we thought it would be a scream to make this a four week teaser too.
Soooo, here’s the deal: Beginning March 9th we are having a “Scavenger Egg Hunt” in the store itself. What it will entail is stopping in to pick up one of the “Hunt Sheets” which will have 5 or 6 questions leading you to where the egg is hidden. The first person to find the egg wins the EGGcellent prize tied to it. These will be substantial, e.g. a gem stone from a local jeweler, a “downtown” gift certificate/goodies package, a bottle of Grgich Hills Cabernet, etc. Keep in mind: the sooner you HOP in the better your chances. We’ll be doing one Egg Hunt each week through April 11th.
Of course, to go along with the promo we’ll be having many new products that are Easter friendly, such as:
Raven PINEAPPLE & PASSION FRUIT WINE (semi-swt) from Washington State!
Tons of new Pinot Noir’s, Zinfandel’s, and White Wines that are brunch table friendly!
Our new Meditteranean gourmet line: THE FRENCH FARM (cognac mustard, sea salt caramels, olive oils, etc.)
New CHEESES from boutique farmsteads throughout the nation.
The amazing DECANTUS Elite funnel and stand for show at the table.
AMEDEI Italian Chocolates rated the “World’s Best Chocolate” by Food & Wine magazine.
KNIPSCHILDT Quail egg chocolates in an actual egg carton…spectacular gift!!! (BTW, Knipschildt is also the crafter of the world’s most expensive truffle, the La Madeline au Truffle. Only $250 per piece!?! Let me know if you want five or ten of um’!)
VOSGES Exotic Bunnies
BISSINGER Chocolate Peanut Butter Eggs
New elixers, glazes, mustards, and marinades from EARTH & VINE…
…and who knows what else will come through the door (or where we’ll put them for that matter, the girls tend to cuss me when the UPS man comes in nowadays :0)!!) We are working diligently to become your one stop shop for entertaining and gift giving needs so please let us know if there are any special requests we can assist you with to simplify life a bit and still WOW your guests.
I’ll send out a weekly update/reminder about the festivities once they begin, just wanted to give you a heads up about it. There will also be plenty of specialty wine tastings with our reps during those times as well. The first one will be FRIDAY, MARCH 6TH, between 5-8 p.m. featuring our good friend SHEELA MOORE and Craig from Louis Glunz Wines. The theme for the wine and the eats that night is MEDITTERANEAN so prime your taste buds for some European delights. Hope to see you there!
On a side note, I have to tell you about a lesson we learned recently about our business. Long story short we had a group of “various business people” in from a well known leadership organization to do an interview with me about our business venture. They were scheduled to be in at a certain time, yet came about 45 minutes early due to mis-communication somewhere along the lines, thus I wasn’t back from my errands yet and our gal Kim didn’t know they were coming because I planned to be there when they arrived, so she scrambled. I dropped what I was doing and flew back as fast as I could. I apologized for the mix up and proceeded to answer their questions for the next 1/2 hour. Everyone seemed happy and left with goody bags. WELL…the lesson came when I was informed by someone that is part of this said group that the ladies who came into the shop basically FRIED our store at the meeting where they told about their experience in front of 40 PEOPLE!!! I won’t go into what was said, but I think that the mishap caused disdain and they felt lack of concern because I wasn’t there immediately. The point here is this: “How would we have ever known that our business, and ethics for that matter, were being sold in a completely different light than what we strive for on a daily basis had that kind man not told us?”
I was incredibly hurt at first, still am really. I hope you feel our candid intentions of treating people kindly and respectful, the thought of any other experience makes my gut wrench. Our entire basis of business is based upon what we call “enlightened hospitality” and consider all of our customers friends. What I further realized is that we are not perfect either and that perceptions can be taken in the wrong context due to unforeseen situations that arise. It dawned on me that we needed a feedback system in place to be able to obtain information from our friends when they had a good experience and hopefully not very often, a not so good experience too.
Thus, we are implementing a feedback area for those goods, bads, and suggestions. I know that I’ll think twice about presuming someone else’s experience was the same as I took it in the future. Just thought I’d share this with you so we can continue to learn and grow together whether you’re on the business side or the consumer side – remember to give the feedback to the situation as a chance for “them” to address the issue because there is no such thing as perfection, however a good business will make it right. I learned from this not only as business lesson,, but from a consumer perspective personally, because there have been times where a restaurant situation turned bad and rather than saying something to a manager I went away upset and probably told 40 people, just maybe not all in the same room :0)
So in closing I want to say: Please know that the shoppe is our home that we welcome you to with open arms and encourage you to share your experience with us always, no matter the topic, because we truly care and appreciate you and we will make it right if it’s wrong.
Cheers!
Amy
